BOAT FEST 2008

What’s U

What’s Up Brothers & Sisters. The Gas Man has returned.  Raunchier, More Vulgar, The World’s Greatest Intellectual.  Let me start by saying… Wow, BASS LAKE BOATFEST 2008 was a great event.  It was held at  the multi-million dollar resort Ducie’s Lodge in the Sequoia National Forest. Lots of beautiful boats and nice looking ladies in short skirts filled the midway.  I don’t know about you, but it was a walking “wood-fest” for me.  Bass Lake BoatFest 2008 is the Concourse De’ Elegance of the V-Drive boating world.  Nowhere else on earth do v-drivers get together to celebrate the boats, the builders and great people. It’s taken 13 years to get to this point.  From 1995 when the Classic V-Drive club was just 7 members strong hanging out at the lake, talking shit, drinkin’ beer and cruising across the lake at break neck speeds. Now we had over 70 boats competing for many different trophies.  Including the coveted ‘BEST IN SHOW”, the pinnacle of the V-Drive world.  If you can win that one….then you are “THE SHIT!”

This year was especially cool because not only did Greg Pambo win with his gorgeous Blown Hydro Pickle Fork, but he stated 2 years ago that he was gonna build a boat that would win the Best In Show at Bass Lake.  Sure enough Greg can talk the talk…and walk the walk.  Congratulations Greg, but look out….there’s a lot of V-Drivers out there who are gonna be looking to take the trophy away from you next year.  Considering that our 12 judges consisted of guys who own v-drives, to boat builders, to people who have never even met before, and even others who have never been to a boat show…it’s a real slap on the back to win a class.

One “ASS-KICKER" that the Bass Lake BoatFest puts on is the “Cackle Fest”.  At noon, 7 or 8 boats got together and revved their engines for a People’s Choice of whose engine was the loudest, meanest and most BadAss of them all.  Ears were ringing and babies were crying, but once it was done, 2 boats emerged in a head-to-head battle at 2pm.  Fullington’s Western Mag Alcohol Hydro vs. Rick Lee’s Top Fuel Flat Bottom named Reincarnated.  Each one took a shot at shocking the crowed.  Once it was over, my ears rang, my heart pounded and I think the squirrels in the trees shit themselves.  Rick Lee’s boat Reincarnated was the winner! Rick use to race top fuel and once he retired from racing he build another top fuel just to show. Congratulations Rick!

Steve H. and his band “THE COVERALLS” were as cool as ever. They rocked the midway from 9am – 3pm non-stop!  Rock-N-Roll, Country, Oldies, you name it…they played it! Thanks guys!

I got to see a lot of members I haven’t seen in years.  Kickstand, Donna, Weaver, Dan, all my friends, it was great to see ya!  Spike, our resident Pompadour Prince, was on hand again this year.  My Bro BL really knows how to put on an event.  I want to send out a special thanks to my Bro for a really great time after the show.  Nothing like a lake front view and a beer lathered dinner.  I finally got to see a piece of meat bigger than Kickstand’s (He ordered it at dinner). Ever seen a 2 ounce Fillet? Just kidding Rob!  Thanks to all the members who traveled a long ways to get to the show.  I heard Steve M. even traveled from San Diego…..with gas at ridiculous prices that’s shows a true love for the V-Drives.

Look for the Jan. 2009 Issue of the newsletter for the dates for BASS LAKE BOAT FEST 2009!  If you think you are the shit….then come to Bass Lake and prove it!

One last thought Brothers and Sisters….Some of you original members might remember a story I was writing in the newsletter years ago called “Lakeside Day Dreaming”….I like to call it Viagra in Print!  If you want me to continue it…send the club an email, let me know!

Until next time….Drinking, Smoking, and Screwing,… Loving, Laughing, and Living…The Gas Man!
